Humble Beginnings
I grew up in a small farming community in Northern Minnesota. My graduating class had twenty-seven people and the biggest influence of my life at that time was my English teacher, Mrs. Davis who helped instil in me a love for reading, writing, and words in general. I can clearly remember the day, at the age of 16, when I sat in my upstairs bedroom of our small farmhouse, looking out the window into the trees and experiencing the feeling of knowing I would someday be a published author. For a young girl from a poor family, the dream was big and for many years, it was set aside as I continued to fill boxes and then filing cabinets with my ideas, concepts, stories, and even manuscripts of completed novels. |
Realizing the Dream
Many, many years later and now the grandmother of young adults and a great grandmother of amazing little ones, I am not only a published author of three books, but a publisher of over 170 books (and growing) by very talented new writers. It’s very interesting where our dreams will take us.
Living the Dream
As a publisher of a growing company, my writing has shifted from fiction to nonfiction and the manuscripts I am now working on in my spare time are either publishing related or body, mind, spirit books which reflect my beliefs and my approach to life.
Reading is My Life Line
I count myself extremely lucky that I get to read the works of new writers as a part of my day job and I’ve discovered some amazing talent. But reading also keeps me engaged and my imagination fed, which helps me to be a better publisher, writer, and person.
I am far beyond the age of 16, but I still have an intense love for reading, writing, and words in general.
