About this recording
Vance Weston and Halo Spear (later Tarrant) meet for the first time at the Willows, an old house built in the style known as Hudson River Bracketed. The novel follows their lives before, and especially after, this meeting, sometimes unfolding separately and often together. It focuses on Vance’s development as a writer, the way Halo facilitates it, and Vance’s difficulty supporting himself financially by writing. Along the way the reader becomes well-acquainted with Vance and Halo’s families, friends and spouses, as well as Vance and Halo themselves.
